Poem- Waiting

This poem is inspired by the book: The Secret of Sarah Revere by Ann Rinaldi.  The poem takes place in 1775, form Sarah Revere's (Paul Revere's 2nd daughter and 3rd child) point of view.

Waiting
From Sarah Revere’s point of view.

Waiting for the knowledge,
Is father quite dead?
We ponder in our sewing,
Feeling much dread,
Others come to visit,
But what can they do?

We walk about the house,
And do our daily chores,
Trying to not have time to think,
For what will our brains do?
Put dampeners on our heads,
Keep our thoughts contained,
Waiting to know,
Waiting.
